Our Story

Seven Decades of Shaping the Future

Ashford Institute of Technology was founded in 1952 by Dr. Harold Ashford and a consortium of New England industrialists who believed that rigorous technical education, married to the liberal arts, would create leaders capable of transforming society.

Starting with fewer than 200 students in a single engineering building, AIT has grown into a comprehensive research university of 22,000 students, 1,200 faculty, and a global alumni network 85,000 strong.

We have awarded over 140,000 degrees. Our graduates have walked on the moon, built the internet, cured diseases, written laws, and mentored the next generation of change-makers.
